From the 30th of April 2014 the 50 pound banknote carrying Sir John Houblon will be officially withdrawn from circulation in the UK. As a result we will be offering a lower rate for this note starting in March. We recommend you offload these notes as soon as possible (unless you want to collect them).
These notes are a lot easier to exchange in the UK, with Barclays, Natwest, RBS, Ulster Bank, and the Post Office all accepting them (up to the value of 200 pounds) until the 30th of October. The Bank of England will continue accepting the Houblon 50 pound, as it does with any Bank of England withdrawn note.
For more information on this issue and how to offload old Houblon 50 pound notes (mostly relevant to the residents of the UK), please watch the video below released by the Bank of England.
